Vision Research has developed the MicroCert EddyPlus Roll Surface Hardness Mapping System for enhanced predictive maintenance of mill roll inventory.  MicroCert Systems are capable of sensing and mapping microstructural features including grain size, dislocation density and crystallographic texture with a spatial resolution of centimeters to a depth of several hundred microns into the metal's surface. These data can be accurately  associated with roll surface hardness in L hardness units.  With EddyPlus it is possible to detect spawls and bruises before they develop cracks open to the roll surface.  This ability to visualize roll surface properties and translate the information into effective maintenance procedures constitutes a quantum leap in effective roll utilization for high-speed high-quality rolling mills.
